Mathematics & Computational Science and the Knowledge Society

During the workshop, we will explore ways in which Mathematics and Computational Science employ computers in order to contextualize these disciplines for the knowledge society. In both math and computational science, computers are employed frequently to perform complex tasks much faster than a person could do them.

Considering the integral role computers play in both of these areas, three areas are included below to prompt further discussion. The idea of the links below is to explore the role of computers in these areas, and the impact computers have in three different arenas using real or hypothetical situations to encourage exploration as to how computers enhance or otherwise affect different aspects in these fields:

  1. Example of Mathematics or Computational Science in the Workplace
  2. Example of Mathematics or Computational Science in Research
  3. Example of Mathematics or Computational Science in Education
