Using Computers in Political Science Jobs

Political science can lead to many possible careers. Obviously using technology is an important part of the current political scene as a way to reach constituents and possible voters. However, nearly every avenue of political and government work makes use of computers.

One recent example of how computers are used in the political science workplace is the study of virtual worlds as a part of intelligence analysis. The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) recently offered a summer program where 30 intelligence analysts studied virtual worlds. ODNI hopes to use worlds such as Second Life to improve analytic capabilities. They are also seeking to develop new virtual worlds to “to explore how manipulating time frames and mapping decision processes.” For more information on these developments, see “Taking Intelligence Analysis to the Virtual World”.
